Abstract—In the present study, a set of correlation relation is developed between standard penetrations tests values (SPT-N) and shear wave velocity (Vs) for all soil types that are near the top 30m of ground for Singapore. Shear wave velocities were measured using PS logging at 25 sites. SPT-N values were taken in total 83 geotechnical boreholes at depth interval of 3 m. Total 865 pairs of SPT-N values and Vs data at various depths for the top 30m of soil from 25 sites were used to develop the regression correlation between uncorrected SPT-N value and Vs. The study has also distilled the datasets of all soil into 2 soil types: sand and silt and clay. It is found that the regression correlations developed for sand, clay and silt, and all soils are almost similar to each other. The regression relationship between SPT-N and Vs were compared with the Singapore National Annex for Eurocode 8 – part 1, together with the results of other published research worldwide for all soils type. The regression equation gives moderately good prediction performance.
This correlation study can be used as a reference when carrying out seismic ground type classification in Singapore and also for other places having similar soil strata as a validation process.
